Summary: The Mechanical Designer supports the Engineering Department by creating detailed 3D models, drawings, and manufacturing documentation for custom upfitted service trucks. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, this role assists throughout design, manufacturing, installation, and as‑built documentation stages. The position also contributes to new product development, prototyping, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives. Strong problem‑solving skills and an understanding of materials and manufacturing processes are essential for success.

Requirements

  • BSME or similar technical education or at least 5 years of relevant experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Must possess a thorough working knowledge and proficiency with Autodesk Inventor (or similar design software system) for 3D modeling and drawing
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, installation, or prototyping, design-for-manufacturing is beneficial
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication methods
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Proficiency in applied mathematics relevant to mechanical design
  • Technical aptitude with mechanical design principles, drafting tools, and engineering software
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and thoroughness in work
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet project deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs and create drawings using Autodesk Inventor
  • Produce 3D layouts, manufacturing drawings and detailed BOMs based on sales orders
  • Provide support during manufacturing and installation phases
  • Work with production and finalize drawings to capture as-built products
  • Inspect components and work with suppliers to resolve quality issues
  • Develop and maintain part libraries for Autodesk Inventor
  • Assist in new product development, prototyping and testing
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Utilizes knowledge of engineering materials and manufacturing processes to reduce cost
