Trystar’s team members are our most important asset, and we are in search of a Engineering Designer / Drafter based at our Burnsville or Faribault office.  Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Designer will help make the Engineering team more productive, efficient, and robust. As a member of this team, you will have opportunity to express ideas and grow your knowledge of design and manufacturing. Primary responsibilities will be 3D modeling, assembly creation and print detailing, as well as product design. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Engineering Technology, Technical Design, or Drafting or equivalent experience
  • 3 years of work experience in SolidWorks with sheet metal
  • Mechanical aptitude consistent with taking vague instructions and ability to nail it down
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Clear Communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Flexible attitude with the ability to address issues and learn new processes
  • Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of work experience with electronics or electrical systems
  • 1 year of work experience with mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with working within ERP Systems (Oracle, SAP, Epicor, etc.)
  • Familiarity with working within Solidworks PDM or similar product data management system is a plus.
  • Experience with version control, or configuration management systems.
  • Knowledge of UL, NEC, or other relevant electrical standards.
  • Curiosity and initiative to learn independently and solve problems proactively
  • Understanding of design best practices, including manufacturability, standardization, and documentation clarity.
  • Experience contributing to development or refinement of design standards or libraries.
  • Proficient in MS Office (especially in MS Word and Excel).
  • Must be organized and be able to multi-task.
  • Strong ability to quickly establish rapport and develop win/win solutions.
  • Strong ability to read electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and understanding of basic electrical/mechanical systems

Responsibilities

  • Complete 3D modeling using 2D existing data (e.g., sheet metal, system assemblies, wiring diagrams)
  • Revise and update engineering documents
  • Development of new product design and existing product customization
  • Enter engineering change notices, and complete other engineering documentation tasks as required
  • Work closely with Manufacturing and quality teams to make sure designs and drawings are production ready and meet compliance standards.
