About The Position

The Mechanical Designer II is an intermediate-level role that plays a key part in the successful execution of projects, with a primary focus on the production of AutoCAD drawings and advanced mechanical design tasks. This position takes on increased responsibility by supporting the design engineer to complete quality design in an efficient and professional manner. The Mechanical Designer II is responsible for producing high-quality construction documents, coordinating design work with other engineering disciplines, and ensuring effective project management. The successful candidate will work within a team environment, collaborating with other project team members to achieve project goals. Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • An AAS Degree in Mechanical Design/Drafting or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in mechanical design or related field.
  • Experience in one or more of the following:   Agribusiness process plants Facility manufacturing Food Manufacturing / Clean Systems Central boiler and/or chiller plants Underground tunnel distribution systems Mechanical equipment / skid design
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit, including 2D and 3D modeling.
  • Knowledge of computer technology and specific areas of application, including MS Office.
  • Mechanical/piping design experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with others.
  • Customer service orientation to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction (internal and external) for services provided.
  • Represent the company in a professional matter.
  • Travel: May include up to 25% domestic travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Field experience is desirable.
  • Experience in a consulting and/or construction capacity.
  • LEED Professional certification or willingness to pursue this designation.
  • Active membership in a relevant trade or professional organization.
  • Experience with Smart3D Design software.

Responsibilities

  • Layout and design mechanical systems for assigned projects independently, including HVAC, piping, and plumbing systems.
  • Prepare General Arrangement Drawings, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and construction documents.
  • Create 3D models and piping isometric drawings.
  • Perform design work on complex and diverse projects, often requiring multiple technologies.
  • Coordinate project design with other disciplines.
  • Perform accurate design calculations and measurements.
  • Conduct construction observations.
  • Size and select components for mechanical systems.
  • Collaborate with others as a CAD and design resource and provide training when assigned.
  • Develop mechanical room layouts.
  • Preview and review shop drawings.
  • Create and manage work plans.
  • Answer field questions and participate in field inspections/meetings.
  • Assist in running heating/cooling loads.
  • Contribute to piping system design with approval and support.
  • Estimate project hours for tasks.
  • Participate in the shop drawing review process.
  • Conduct punchlists with supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
