About The Position

As a Mechanical Design Engineer in Burnsville, MN, you will: Contribute to the mechanical design of custom-engineered power distribution and electromechanical systems, including switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, and docking stations Translate customer specifications, site requirements, and technical constraints into accurate, manufacturable mechanical solutions Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks to support manufacturing, testing, and certification Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including electrical engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and quality—to ensure design accuracy and project alignment Create and maintain mechanical specifications, BOMs, and technical documentation within PLM/ERP systems Support certification and compliance activities, ensuring designs meet relevant UL and industry standards Participate in customer-facing engineering discussions, providing technical clarity and design recommendations Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including modularization, automation, and design standardization Manage tasks and timelines effectively in a consulting environment, ensuring high-quality deliverables for multiple clients Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners across southern Minnesota. Contribute to projects that impact communities in Faribault, Northfield, Owatonna, Waseca, and the greater Twin Cities. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 2–3+ years of mechanical design experience, ideally in power distribution or electromechanical systems
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings
  • Experience interpreting customer specifications and site requirements to develop mechanical solutions
  • Knowledge of mechanical design best practices, including safety, manufacturability, and compliance
  • Experience creating technical documentation to support manufacturing, testing, and certification
  • Experience with switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, load banks, or related power distribution equipment
  • Familiarity with UL standards such as UL 1008, UL 508, and UL 1640
  • Experience with ERP, PLM, and engineering vault systems for managing design documentation and BOMs
  • Background in process improvement, modularization, or design automation
  • Capable of working independently and as a team member
  • Strong work ethic and unwavering integrity
