Job Summary: Salas O’Brien is currently seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for our HVAC design, plumbing, and fire protection projects in existing buildings. Projects include design, construction administration, and project management for building management system installations, HVAC systems & equipment retrofits, HVAC controls, and plumbing systems. As a Salas O’Brien design engineer, candidates will join a highly skilled team of designers pursuing engineering excellence in existing buildings. This position offers significant leadership opportunity and exposure to premier institutional clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from accredited program
  • New York State Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
  • At least 4 years of relevant design experience in HVAC projects
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge of NYC/NYS building, mechanical, and plumbing codes
  • Ability to work independently with supervision and collaboratively in team environment.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • Time and project management skills

Nice To Haves

  • New York State Licensed Professional Engineer preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform heating and cooling load calculations with industry-standard load sizing software tools
  • Conduct field surveys to document existing conditions
  • Select and size HVAC and controls equipment
  • Develop HVAC sequences of operation
  • Prepare design drawings, specifications, and construction document packages
  • Develop project cost estimates
  • Perform computer-aided design (CAD)
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors for product selections, cutsheets, and quotes
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and as-builts
  • Conduct punch list and construction administration site surveys
  • Support other engineering tasks as needed
