As a Mechanical Design Engineer in Burnsville, MN, you may: design mechanical components and assemblies, with emphasis on sheet metal; use SolidWorks and other mechanical design tools to create accurate, manufacturable solutions; interpret customer specifications and site requirements to develop practical mechanical designs; balance customer customization with standardized design practices to support efficiency; collaborate with cross‑functional teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders; apply strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with relevant codes and standards; manage design documentation and bills of materials using ERP, PLM, and Engineering Vault systems, and work collaboratively with suppliers and other Applied partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • A minimum of two years using Solidworks for 3D design
  • The ability to source components and work directly with vendors
  • Capable of working independently and as a team member
  • Strong work ethic and unwavering integrity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a learning mindset
  • Curiosity, problem solving, and analytical thinking
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Desire to work on a variety of projects
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Product development/redevelopment experience strongly preferred
  • Experience with UL 1008, UL 508, UL 891, and UL 1558 standards a plus
