About The Position

The Linear Motion Division is a major contributor to the Automation & Controls Segment, with approximately 1,500 global associates and $400M in revenue. There are 9 main sites located across the United States, Mexico, the Caribbean, & Europe. The Mechanical Design Engineer II is responsible for sustaining and customizing existing products within Engineered‑to‑Order (ETO) and Customer‑Led Opportunity (CLO) programs, ensuring solutions meet defined performance, cost, and quality requirements. The role includes generating clear, traceable technical documentation and procedures that support downstream design, manufacturing, and quality engineering activities.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering or other related discipline
  • 3 years’ required experience
  • Ability to perform design calculations
  • Use of computer-aided design tools.
  • Understanding of design requirements, part function and manufacturing principles
  • Ability to facilitate a technical discussion with internal and external customers (application or spec review and VOC)
  • Ability to solve moderately complex problems
  • Must be willing to travel by all forms of transportation.
  • Position requires 5-10% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Support existing products through cost reduction, failure analysis, application solution and product derivatives.
  • Provide drawing and documentation approval for simple to medium complexity components and processes
  • Provide recommendations with corresponding documentation to engineering manager or project team for complex components and processes
  • MRB dispositioning (Material Review Board)
  • Use of computer-aided design analysis tools to optimize designs in an efficient manner
  • Collaborating across design and manufacturing sites to share best practices and drive effective problem‑solving
  • Owns delivery of ETO and SPO solutions that meet contractual, cost, schedule, and quality commitments.
  • Develop designs that fully reflect VOC and VOP inputs, ensuring requirements are translated into functional, manufacturable solutions.
  • Creates product and process documentation that leverages reference designs and establishes best practices to ensure traceability and design consistency.
  • Evaluate existing designs to identify and qualify alternate components or configurations while preserving original design intent, features, and functional performance.
  • Build deep proficiency in core RBS tools, including TPI, structured problem‑solving, VRK, 6S, Standard Work, Ideation, and FMEA.
