About The Position

The Tooling and Automation Engineer works closely with Production and Manufacturing Engineering to support all manufacturing and assembly requirements across wafer processes, microelectronics, vacuum packaging, and camera assembly and testing at all stages of product development. This role is responsible for the design, development, documentation, and implementation of mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging solutions that enable efficient, repeatable, and high‑quality assembly processes. The engineer collaborates with internal customers to deliver innovative, reliable tooling solutions that meet production needs. Must be US Citizen or PERM Resident

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in SolidWorks drafting, tool design for assembly and production fixturing, and process equipment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods and demonstrate a solid understanding of computer‑aided design and drafting techniques.
  • Hands‑on capability with basic hand tools.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic tooling solutions to support assembly operations, including wafer processing, microelectronics, vacuum packaging, and camera assembly and testing across all phases of product development.
  • Interface closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to maintain a strong understanding of existing and evolving manufacturing processes, ensuring tooling designs are effective, robust, and production-ready.
  • Support manufacturing during tool implementation, including debugging, troubleshooting, and revising tooling designs as required to improve performance, reliability, and usability.
  • Provide cost estimates and delivery schedules for tooling and equipment.
  • Create and maintain accurate design documentation in accordance with FLIR Systems procedures and documentation standards.
  • Research and remain current on emerging manufacturing technologies, materials, and design approaches, applying relevant advancements to tooling and automation solutions.
  • Conceptualize complete manufacturing systems and develop tooling designs that support, enhance, and integrate with overall production workflows.
  • Maintain post‑delivery engagement with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure tooling and equipment perform as intended and meet operational requirements.
  • Apply strong attention to detail and analytical problem‑solving skills to provide effective design input and assist in the development and refinement of manufacturing techniques.
