Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Mechanical Designer in Tullahoma, TN. The designer will be part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for designing a new hypersonic test facility at Arnold Air Force Base, TN. This facility will play a key role in hypersonic system development for the United States Department of Defense. The position involves coordinating with multiple departments from concept to commissioning, performing non-routine assignments of substantial variety and complexity, and generating complex 2-D drawings or 3-D CAD design models with minimal guidance.

  • Coordinate with multiple departments on the project from concept to commissioning.
  • Develop or review designs by extracting and analyzing a variety of engineering data.
  • Generate complex 2-D drawings or 3-D CAD design models with minimal guidance.
  • Prepare portions of 3-D CAD design model under the supervision of experienced designers.
  • Review and check calculations, design models, drawings and design documents prepared by others.
  • Prepare bulk material quantity takeoffs and material requisitions for materials applicable to the group.
  • Work with engineers and other designers to coordinate designs.
  • Answer questions from client or construction group on design for assigned responsibility.
  • Compile, maintain and access job drawing files, records, and drawing controls.
  • Support the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction.
  • Vocational school training/certification comprising at least two semesters or two years of college with courses relevant to drafting and/or design.
  • Minimum 12 years of extensive drawing and drafting experience.
  • US Citizenship is required.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • Experience with a raceway design and cable management software.
  • Familiar with SETROUTE.
  • Experienced in supporting design, construction and commissioning phases on a large, complex project.
  • Knowledge and application of NEC code and ANSI/IEEE Standards.
  • Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
  • Skill in reading, interpreting and using related documents and drawings prepared by other project groups.
  • Knowledge of the methods and procedures used for procurement, takeoffs and quality control of bulk materials applicable to the group.
  • Skill in directing the technical work of less experienced designers and/or drafters.
  • Starting PTO accrual of 20 days PTO/year + 10 holidays/year
