About The Position

Responsible for taking a leading role and overseeing mechanical design, development & qualification of Avionics Electromechanical components, products & systems. Participate with members of management in the design and development of products and analysis of customer requirements by leading the determination and implementation of optimal solutions, while considering avionics requirements, regulations, product marketing and cost. Has specific technical project or product responsibility. Provide mentorship, leadership and/or technical guidance to engineers on a project. Lead integration of competitive technologies and drive alignment with overseas engineering divisions to maximize global efficiency.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or any field of study.
  • 15+ years' mechanical design experience.
  • Experience with consumer electronics, including servers, computers, laptops, mobile phones, wireless and networking equipment is preferred.
  • 3D/2D 3D modeling Software Experience (Pro/E CREO, NX, CATIA or SolidWorks)
  • Expert-level knowledge of engineering principles such as solid mechanics, materials science, heat transfer, static and dynamic structural analysis, and electromagnetic shielding.
  • Expert-level ability in 3D CAD modeling (Creo or NX Preferred), creating and interpreting engineering drawings and performing tolerance analysis.
  • Expertise in determining and developing requirements from specifications, oral instructions, or preliminary sketches.
  • Highly proficient and knowledgeable in mass production manufacturing techniques, such as sheet metal stamping, plastic injection molding, die casting and CNC Machining.
  • Exemplary technical writing ability to prepare reports and documentation for submission to management.
  • Highly proficient in project planning to ensure timely completion of complex, independent tasks or one or more complex projects. Must know, plan for and integrate internal and external dependencies across multi-functions.
  • Proven ability to develop technical approach or design, resource, allocation or time schedule on projects.
  • Demonstrated high level of experience providing technical identifiable technical contributions to the success of a specific product/project.
  • Expert-level ability to extensively modify existing process, procedures or methods to develop appropriate solutions.
  • Expert with commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the Electronic Engineering field.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multi-function teams to achieve positive results for complex projects. Performs as mentor, leader, technical expert and a source of information.
  • Ability to direct a team in developing and implementing test methods and procedures for verification and compliance with avionics requirements and regulations.
  • Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may provide guidance to other technical positions.
  • Interact effectively with senior internal and external personnel.
  • Internal and external contacts often pertain to company plans and objectives.
  • Utilize specialized knowledge in order to provide recommendations and make decisions in matters of significance to the product and company.
  • Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors.
  • Experience creating and interpreting engineering drawings using geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the designs and development of mechanical enclosures, components and assemblies utilizing mass production manufacturing techniques, such as sheet metal stamping, plastic injection molding, die casting and CNC machining.
  • Apply expert level planning, engineering principles and hands-on techniques to solve complex engineering challenges and refine product designs.
  • Oversee the qualitative and quantitative thermal, structural, shock, and vibration analyses to assess the dynamic characteristics and thermal performance of materials, assemblies, and systems.
  • Oversee the proper selection of hardware and material to ensure compliance with industry specifications (e.g., DO-160) and product requirements.
  • Oversee and direct the work of technicians, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and support personnel to ensure designs are implemented effectively and aligned with project objectives.
  • Lead the integration of patentable and competitive technologies into products, driving innovation and differentiation in the market.
  • Oversee the determination of engineering solutions while considering form, fit, function, thermal, structural rigidity, weight, EMI, ESD, DFM, DFT, product marketing and cost.
  • Oversee the coordination between the Mechanical Engineering department and procurement, manufacturing, obsolescence, and material planning teams to coordinate part selection, ordering, and vendor/supplier management.
  • Lead and sustain the development and design of the mechanical parts with overseas manufacturing division to ensure product manufacturability.
  • Take ownership of cross-site collaboration and resolve manufacturability challenges.
  • Manage the overall technical direction of supporting personnel to resolve design and related manufacturing problems.
  • Participate in CRB (Change Review Board) and facilitate communication for product design changes, reviews, change impact / implementation for products and parts.
  • Create conceptual designs, assess risks, and develop cost effective products that meet the program requirements for packaging systems in airborne-based environments.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for the product design.
