About The Position

Mechanical Design Engineers involved in the quality of the features offered in our products are responsible for researching mechanical technologies to use in improving our motion control product offering and designing their manufacturing processes. They support the advanced product quality planning (APQP) processes in new product design and development, and engineering change notifications (ECN) for related manufacturing processes. They may interface with customers, and vendors to develop new manufacturing processes or modify existing processes that meet all specified customer requirements, including regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Strong understanding of the current industry guidelines for designing, manufacturing, and testing
  • Strong understanding of compliance, engineering standards, and certifications including knowledge of ISO standards and documentation
  • Strong understanding of Advanced Product Quality Planning concepts (APQP)
  • Solid understanding of 3D CAD design (SolidWorks experience)
  • Familiar with assembly effects on runout and concentricity and how to minimize
  • Familiar with deliverables such as rotor dynamics analyses
  • Familiar with internal system foreign object debris (FOD) generation and how to minimize in design
  • Familiar with high IP rated electro-mechanical device characteristics preferred
  • Familiar with developing and delivering complete solutions
  • Familiar with vendor qualification
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Familiar with leading large projects
  • Ability to communicate independently and effectively with all levels of management
  • Persistence to meet schedules
  • Advocates positive team concepts
  • Good communication and organizational skills
  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Technology, Physics or closely related field required
  • 0-5 years’ experience, with 3+ years quality engineering experience preferred
  • Willing to relocate to North Idaho required
  • Able to travel domestically and abroad as projects require, but typically averaging 15% or less
  • US citizenship or permanent work visa required
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required
  • Use of upper body, arms, and hands throughout the day
  • Lifting 10-20 pounds repeatedly throughout the day
  • Bending, stooping, and reaching overhead throughout the day to reach materials to move or pickup
  • Able to work regularly with epoxy, glues, sealants

Nice To Haves

  • Six Sigma or other lean manufacturing certifications preferred
  • Coursework in Design for Manufacturability and/or Mechatronics a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support and/or create new product designs for improved product reliability
  • Make enhancements to existing product designs and related manufacturing processes
  • Create prototypes and develop written test protocols
  • Design manufacturing and test control apparatus and equipment
  • Design quality and manufacturability into new products and production processes
  • Analyze design trade-offs, conduct design reviews, solicit input
  • Develop innovations to resolve technical issues
  • Support the product planning and launch processes
  • Develop and execute project scope, cost estimates, feasibility and schedules
  • Communicate specifications for purchase of materials and equipment/tooling when necessary
  • Other mechanical design engineering work as needed
