The Mechanical Design and Process Engineer plays a crucial role in the Garnet Materials Process and Design team, focusing on ensuring that the faraday rotator material produced meets customer specifications. This hands-on position involves designing mechanical fixtures and drawings to support process development and testing methodologies, while also enhancing production efficiency. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to monitor processes, improve yields, and develop innovative solutions for material growth and fabrication.

  • Design mechanical fixtures and drawings to support process development and testing methodology.
  • Monitor processes and support LPE growth engineers with process improvement projects and yield analysis.
  • Collaborate with product development, growth, and testing engineers to enhance process efficiency and yields through failure mode reviews.
  • Develop and implement cost-effective solutions for the growth and fabrication of faraday rotator materials.
  • Provide mechanical design insights and create design models and drawings for testing and characterization engineers.
  • B.S. in Physics, Materials Science, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • One year of experience in a manufacturing environment with a strong understanding of safety requirements.
  • Experience with Solidworks, AutoCAD, or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with LabView, MathCAD, or programming languages such as Python and Shell Scripting.
  • Experience with opto-mechanical designs.
  • Understanding of mechanical design, 3D modeling, stress and thermal analysis.
  • Experience with databases, data retrieval, and complex analysis.
  • Proficiency in Python, C#, or other scripting programming languages.
  • Familiarity with JMP, Origin, Excel, or other statistical analysis software.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of work safety protocols related to lasers, mechanics, and hazardous materials.
