About The Position

As a Mechanical Design Engineer I in the Lighting Center of Excellence (COE) at Honeywell, you will play a crucial role in the design and development of innovative lighting systems for commercial and military aerospace applications. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in a high-tech manufacturing environment, with an emphasis on aerospace preferred.
  • Familiarity with 3D modeling software such as Creo (Pro/E), CATIA, or a similar CAD package.

Nice To Haves

  • A basic understanding of mechanical design engineering principles, concepts, practices, and theories.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Interest or experience in injection molded plastic part design and manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and original thinking.
  • Knowledge of Design for Six Sigma tools and processes is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with electronic circuit packaging design and thermal management techniques is a plus.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise presentations and proposals to support New Business Development efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating design projects from initial concept through to product release and qualification testing.
  • Engage as a key contributor in a cross-functional New Product Development team, defining functional requirements and developing both detailed designs and design validation.
  • Produce robust mechanical designs that align with cost, schedule, and manufacturing targets, ensuring reliability for major aircraft operators.
  • Collaborate with engineering analysts on structural and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA), to validate design concepts.
  • Help coordinate the production of prototypes and mock-ups while participating in testing and verification activities to ensure design integrity.
  • Support legacy product manufacturing, assembly and test in on-site production factory.
  • Interface with customers to gather requirements and specifications for aerospace lighting products, enhancing user interaction and satisfaction.
  • Create detailed technical documentation for mechanical designs, ensuring clarity and compliance with industry standards.
  • Support the optimization of design cost and performance through effective supplier coordination.
