We are looking for a Customer Services, Mechanical Data Analyst Intern. During your summer journey with us, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the cutting-edge Health Monitoring team where you will learn to recognize patterns and pull actionable insights from complex diesel engine data. You'll master the art of root cause analysis, transforming raw sensor data into predictive intelligence that keeps locomotives running smoothly across the nation. Imagine being the detective who prevents engine failures before they happen! You'll work with state-of-the-art monitoring systems that track everything from temperature fluctuations to vibration patterns, learning to identify the subtle warning signs that could save millions in maintenance costs and prevent service disruptions that affect thousands of passengers daily. Our Health Monitoring specialists are the unsung heroes who ensure that when someone boards a train in Chicago bound for Seattle, that locomotive's engine will perform flawlessly for the entire 1,732-mile journey.

  • Analyze engine performance data using advanced analytics tools to identify trends, anomalies, and potential failure modes
  • Develop and refine algorithms that can predict engine maintenance needs weeks or months in advance
  • Work alongside engineers, data scientists, and field technicians to validate findings and implement monitoring improvements
  • Contribute to next-generation monitoring technologies, including IoT sensors, machine learning applications, and digital twin development
  • Translate technical findings into actionable recommendations that directly improve locomotive reliability and reduce downtime
  • Receive mentoring from seasoned professionals across multiple fields to help guide your future
  • Current Sophomore or Junior undergraduates pursuing a BA/BS from an accredited college or university and majoring in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Industrial)
  • Strong technical or analytical aptitude
  • Availability: 40 hours per week from June to August
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without the need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization
  • Prior internship or co-op experience (preferred) with a preferred cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Demonstrated leadership potential
  • Strong analytical, writing, presentation, and critical-thinking skills
  • Industry knowledge and/or interest in data analytics and mechanical systems
  • Hourly pay range of $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
  • Eligible to contribute into our 401K program
