The firm is seeking a Mechanical Consultant with facility design experience to join its Austin, TX office. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in mechanical system design for diverse project types, including HVAC, plumbing, steam, hydronic heating and cooling, compressed air, and possess a basic understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) with the ability to write sequence of operations for building systems. Project types include renovations and new construction, with design tasks encompassing general arrangements, piping and ductwork layout, and equipment selections. Work primarily focuses on central heating and cooling plants, campus utility distribution systems, industrial/process facilities, power, and other infrastructure projects, which can be local, nationwide, or worldwide, serving industrial, higher education, utility, federal, and municipal clients. This senior mechanical engineer role involves determining technical approaches, validating design criteria, directing junior staff, and reviewing/performing detailed design tasks such as calculations, specifications, and drawing preparation. The individual will coordinate with multidiscipline design teams, prepare high-quality deliverables, and perform design duties with minimal supervision while communicating effectively within a team. This position offers interaction with various clients in multiple markets, with potential for international projects. Candidates should have 8-15 years of experience applying standard mechanical engineering techniques and procedures. The role may involve working as a design engineer or discipline lead, with mentoring opportunities for building project management skills. Experience in state or federal building design, university central plants, industrial facilities, mission critical facilities, or related fields is essential. Work will include new building design, existing building retrofits and upgrades, industrial/process facilities, and other energy infrastructure projects of varying size and location.
