This job posting is for a Mechanical Engineer to perform duties of Component Engineer for Maintenance Support Engineering (MSE) team. The Mechanical Component Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring high reliability of Heat Exchangers, Expansion Joints, and Flex Hoses through effective testing, maintenance, and long-range planning consistent with station goals. This job posting is at the Nuclear Engineer III or Senior Nuclear Engineer level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as a Nuclear Engineer III or Senior. Nuclear Engineer III is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of mechanical systems and components with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied. Senior Nuclear Engineer is the career/senior level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level manage work in engineering areas of mechanical systems and components with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They are fully competent in use of concepts and procedures. They identify problems, develop solutions, and take actions to resolve. Senior Engineer represents a level at which career may stabilize for many years.

Requirements

  • Nuclear Engineer III Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Minimum of 4 years up to 6 years of engineering experience.
  • Senior Engineer Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program or state registration as a Professional Engineer. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience, or 5 years of engineering experience AND state registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Nuclear Plant unescorted access
  • Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition
  • This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering/technical guidance to Operations, Maintenance, and other groups in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity both inside and outside the scope of assigned responsibility.
  • Supports periodic testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of assigned mechanical components; evaluates and solves equipment failures, degradation, and operational issues; initiates and advocates system reliability improvements.
  • Performs component maintenance optimization for Heat Exchangers, Expansion Joints, and Flex Hoses and coordinates component reliability improvements.
  • Provides tactical support for the day-to-day maintenance of the plant and is the designated owner for critical components
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities
  • Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation with the ability to conduct analysis for defined problems of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts engineering and equipment related investigations with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating problem resolution.
  • Provides component/system technical support for Operability Determinations and supports review of Operations and Maintenance procedures.
  • Applies a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes and develops standards relevant to area of assignment.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments, technologies, procedures and equipment.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ensures that mechanical system health issues are communicated to key stakeholders and management.
  • Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Coaches and mentors less experienced engineers as needed.
