Mechanical Engineer – Data Center Projects Overview The Mechanical Engineer position is an exciting opportunity to join PM Group’s rapidly growing U.S. Outsourced Technical Services(OTS) team in support of mission-critical data center projects. Outsourced Technical Services (OTS) is an integral part of PM Group’s ability to support clients across the complete project life cycle. As part of our expanding presence in the technology and advanced manufacturing sector, this role will contribute to the design, delivery, and optimization of high-performance facilities that enable continuous, reliable operation for our global clients. Working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment, the Mechanical Engineer will support projects from early design through construction, commissioning, and turnover. This individual will play a key role in developing mechanical system solutions—focusing on cooling, HVAC, chilled water, and heat-rejection infrastructure—to meet demanding performance, efficiency, and uptime requirements. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on technical problem-solving, coordination with cross-functional partners, and engaging directly with clients and project teams. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, construction, or operations—preferably in data centers, pharma, semiconductor, or other mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, chilled water distribution, heat rejection systems, and mechanical equipment.
  • Familiarity with commissioning processes and reliability requirements for 24/7 facilities.
  • Ability to work on-site as required by the client.
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder interaction.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, schedule-driven environments.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD / Revit / BIM tools preferred.
  • PE licensure or EIT a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and review mechanical system designs including HVAC, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC systems, cooling towers, pumps, and related infrastructure.
  • Perform load calculations, airflow modeling, equipment sizing, and system optimization for mission-critical cooling.
  • Support development of design documents: P&IDs, mechanical layouts, specifications, and equipment schedules.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards, codes, and client-specific requirements.
  • Interface with architects, electrical engineers, controls teams, and construction partners to align mechanical scope.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value-engineering exercises.
  • Support equipment submittal reviews, RFIs, change management, and field issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors during installation and startup.
  • Provide technical oversight during mechanical installation and testing activities.
  • Assist with development and execution of commissioning plans, Level 1–5 testing, TAB verification, and system turnover documentation.
  • Troubleshoot system performance issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Support root-cause analysis for mechanical system failures or performance deviations.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance energy efficiency and cooling capacity.
  • Ensure all project documentation, redlines, and as-builts are accurately maintained.
