About The Position

The Mechanical Chapter Lead is a senior technical leader and recognized subject matter expert responsible for the technical excellence, capability growth, and professional development of the global Mechanical Engineering Chapter, whose members are distributed across multiple locations and value streams worldwide. This role combines deep hands-on mechanical engineering expertise with strong leadership, mentoring, and coaching skills. The Mechanical Chapter Lead sets the technical direction for mechanical engineering across the organization, leads the introduction of new technologies and engineering capabilities, and ensures consistent, high-quality mechanical design practices globally. In addition to people leadership, the Chapter Lead is actively engaged in mentoring engineers, reviewing designs, supporting complex technical challenges, and elevating the overall technical maturity and consistency of mechanical engineering across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering, including deep expertise in areas such as mechanical design, finite element analysis, thermal management, materials selection, prototyping and testing, manufacturing processes, reliability engineering, and product compliance for industrial products.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership as a go-to expert, including mentoring others and leading complex technical problem-solving efforts.
  • Experience leading and developing teams of technical professionals, including distributed or global teams.
  • Proven ability to mentor and coach engineers through hands-on technical engagement.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across disciplines, cultures, and seniority levels.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and building sustainable engineering capabilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of the power utility industry and related monitoring technologies.
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) and Agile best practices.
  • Proven experience working in an Agile environment, preferably in a technical leadership or mentoring role.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary mechanical engineering subject matter expert for the organization, providing guidance on complex, high-risk, or novel technical challenges.
  • Lead the evaluation, introduction, and adoption of new mechanical technologies, tools, materials, and design methodologies that strengthen the chapter’s global capabilities.
  • Actively participate in design reviews, technical problem-solving, and escalation support when teams encounter challenging mechanical issues.
  • Define and evolve the long-term technical roadmap for mechanical engineering capabilities in alignment with business and product needs.
  • Mentor chapter members through hands-on technical coaching, design reviews, and knowledge transfer, supporting both day-to-day execution and long-term growth.
  • Act as a trusted technical advisor for engineers across experience levels and geographic locations, helping them grow depth, confidence, and engineering judgment.
  • Identify skill gaps within the global chapter and proactively build capability through training, mentoring, and targeted development plans.
  • Lead, mentor, and coach the Mechanical Chapter, ensuring technical excellence, consistency, and continuous learning across all regions.
  • Own and maintain harmonized mechanical development procedures, design standards, design checklists, and design controls, ensuring global alignment and continuous best-practice adoption.
  • Ensure mechanical work across value streams meets quality, reliability, manufacturability, and compliance expectations.
  • Collaborate with other Chapter Leads, Product Owners, and Scrum Masters to ensure strong cross-disciplinary alignment and consistent execution across regions.
  • Support Agile teams by balancing standards and consistency with flexibility, learning, and rapid feedback.
  • Foster a strong culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, technical curiosity, and continuous improvement across the global engineering organization.
  • Support career development through regular feedback, coaching toward D4G goals, identification of growth opportunities, and input into performance reviews.
  • Manage the chapter’s training budget and learning investments to maximize technical and organizational impact.
  • Coordinate succession planning to ensure long-term stability, continuity, and technical leadership within the global Mechanical Chapter.
