About The Position

As a Mechanical/Automation Engineer, a typical day will include performing various mechanical engineering functions such as design, analysis, and design for manufacturability (DFM). You will be responsible for solution integration, delivering and implementing designs on the production floor, and qualifying, integrating, and monitoring automation implementations. Your role will also involve creating detailed designs, preparing CAD data, coordinating changes to existing designs, and generating and maintaining accurate Bills of Material. Additionally, you will provide accurate labor and material estimates, write and conduct experiments, and maintain project notebooks and system documentation. Participation in system specifications, design reviews, and managing a technical team for project delivery within schedule and budget constraints will also be part of your responsibilities. You will be expected to follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing principles while understanding, creating, and simplifying processes. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in automation integration, materials and processes, mechanics, computer-aided design, or electronic manufacturing techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Background check results satisfactory to SEL.
  • Negative drug test result(s).

Nice To Haves

  • Small team leadership experience.
  • Working knowledge of basic analog and digital electronics, PLC programming, and vision systems.
  • Experience programming and maintaining automated manufacturing equipment and machinery.
  • Experience providing design, automation, or general engineering support in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience writing and/or conducting Design of Experiments.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components including plastic, sheet metal, and machined components.
  • Conduct analysis on tolerance, stress, fatigue, thermal, and FMEA.
  • Perform design for manufacturability (DFM) reviews and provide feedback.
  • Deliver and implement designs/solutions on the production floor.
  • Qualify, integrate, and monitor automation implementations.
  • Create detailed designs and prepare CAD data, coordinating changes to existing designs.
  • Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Material.
  • Provide accurate labor and material estimates.
  • Write and/or conduct experiments.
  • Maintain accurate project notebooks, system documentation, and work instructions.
  • Participate in system specifications, system design, and design reviews.
  • Manage a technical team for project(s) delivering solutions within schedule and budget constraints.
  • Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing principles.
