About The Position

AMA is currently accepting applications for a Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering intern to support Research on extremum seeking for formation flying will be conducted. In particular, we will develop a Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) architecture with the ability to perform amplitude modulation, adaptive learning and safe flight. Amplitude modulation entails reducing the amplitude of the multi-sin excitation as a region with an acceptably low drag is approached, thereby improving the flying qualities and further reducing fuel consumption. Adaptive learning entails adjusting the learning rate according to the local convexity of the objective function, thereby accelerating the speed of convergence. Finally, safe flight entails avoiding regions where the aircraft experiences loss of control. The resulting architecture will be evaluated on a high-fidelity model of a fighter aircraft. This internship begins June 22, 2026, and concludes September 11, 2026. For candidates with authorization to work in the U.S., onsite work at AMA corporate office is requested. Pay for this position is $23.10 - $33.50, depending on education and location.
