About The Position

This full time position is responsible for repairing and maintaining Smithers' fleet of snow removal and other equipment. In this role you will primarily be required to read codes, troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems on various types of vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

  • Technical Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from four-year College or university; or ten to twelve years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience in automotive, truck, farm equipment, and maintenance required.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for keeping all vehicles and equipment in good running condition, including hydraulics, gas, diesel and electrical engines
  • Performs complex diagnostic procedures on all vehicle systems to determine appropriate maintenance and repairs.
  • Effectively uses hand tools and automotive diagnostic equipment; interpret manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Performs vehicle inspections on engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, components, electrical and fuel systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance including tune ups, brake jobs on vehicles, farm equipment, and generators.
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
  • Fills out incident reports and other forms related to maintenance.
  • Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies.
  • Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
  • Evaluates and documents operator complaints.
  • Follows and develops safe working practices for all employees.
  • Keeps updated with Worker’s Compensation and OSHA requirements.
  • Fabricates or modifies equipment and various other metal structures.
  • Designs, welds, and fabricates steel, aluminum and stainless steel fabricated projects using mig, tig, stick and gas.
  • Establishes maintenance schedules, and properly maintains vehicles.
  • Uses computer software and hardware to conduct tests on products and systems.
  • Represents the organization in a professional manner.
  • Provides leadership within the organization.
  • Delivers quality messages to all employees on a regular basis.
  • Develops and implements operating methods and procedures designed to eliminate operating problems, and improve the quality of services provided.
