About The Position

Mechanic Primary Purpose: Maintain department vehicles at maximum efficiency. Accurately record all repairs, parts, and other services. Assist supervisors in accomplishing department goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • State vehicle inspection certification
  • A valid Texas commercial driver's license with bus driver certification, preferred; (CDL will be required within 6 months of hire date)
  • Negative mandatory OTETA test
  • Interest, attitude, and ability to grow professionally
  • Line-mechanic skills competency
  • Pass annual TEA/DOT physical
  • Acceptable driving/criminal history

Responsibilities

  • Maintains personal skills at the level required to perform major repairs on all department vehicles and vehicle components with little or no supervision
  • Accurately performs major vehicle and component repairs as directed by the supervisor
  • Performs periodic preventive maintenance inspections as directed by the supervisor
  • Performs needed minor repairs and adjustments during periodic vehicle inspections and makes suggestions to the supervisor when major repairs are indicated by the inspection
  • Accurately diagnoses mechanical problems
  • Maintains a personal tool set commensurate with job requirements
  • Attends required refresher workshops and safety meetings
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and uncluttered workspace
  • Replaces parts used from service truck inventories as soon as possible
  • Minimize road-call down time by accurately diagnosing problems and performing needed repairs without delay
  • Records all relevant information on repair orders in a readable fashion
  • Assists drivers in the transfer of students to a relief bus and in getting the route back in service when justified by lengthy repairs
  • Maintains personal qualifications for driving school buses and drive bus when needed
  • Acts as substitute bus driver or monitor, when required
  • Complies with directions and instructions from Supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned
  • Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates teamwork in daily activities
  • Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently
  • Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences
  • Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business
  • Continued professional growth by attending workshops and classes
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible
  • Comply with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations
  • Adhere to the district's safety policies and procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of interacting with students and/or district employees in the specific work site assigned
  • Other duties as assigned
