Job Description Summary The Mechanic will perform work associated with maintenance, repair, preventive maintenance and alteration of building and mechanical, electrical and plumbing equipment and systems. Requirements

  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals normally acquired through completion of high school or GED.
  • Requires two years of experience in basic mechanical repairs and knowledge of pumps and valves and necessary familiarity with hospital policies and procedures, different types of machines and equipment routinely repaired and safety precautions.
  • Ice Machine Equipment repair experience required.
  • Must have basic computer skills and experience in using Microsoft products, email and computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Requires interpersonal skills sufficient to maintain effective communication with employees, contractors and patients.
  • Requires ability to move heavy equipment weighing up to sixty pounds.
  • Requires ability to use tools required by duties.
  • Ability to follow infectious control and safety procedures.
  • Ability to read blueprints/schematics and technical manuals
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Reports directly to the Facilities Manager.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or certification (in Carpentry, Maintenance, Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing and/or Refrigeration) from a skill trade program or equivalent highly preferred.
  • Will consider combination of work experience and education as well.
  • Experience with kitchen equipment such as stoves, ovens, refrigeration, and steam warmers, preventive maintenance and corrective repairs highly desirable
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine maintenance activities such as changing light bulbs, repairing outlets and hanging pictures.
  • Completes work orders within department quality and time standards.
  • Maintains the pneumatic tube station.
  • Performs basic bed repairs.
  • Performs water chlorination tests.
  • Serves as a member of the snow response team.
  • Conducts inspections of machinery, equipment and fire safety equipment, checks gauges and calibrations and performs routine preventive maintenance such as lubricating moving parts.
  • Records preventive maintenance activities according to procedure.
  • Makes routine plumbing and electrical repairs such as unclogging drains, repairing leaking faucets and toilets and repairing light fixtures.
  • Removes and replaces ceiling tiles.
  • Cleans work areas, maintains equipment and tools and returns unused materials to storage areas after completion of assigned work.
  • Maintains work log of activities performed.
  • Performs maintenance and safety inspections on assigned floors.
  • Cuts key blanks to make keys for specific locks, using key cutting machine.
  • Event set up rehab equipment and furniture moving
  • Standpipe connection inspections
  • Control valve secured inspections
  • Monthly washer filter changes
  • Change plaster room filter
  • Cleans P&O grate
  • Positive pressure room monthly PMs
  • Ensure air quality/room pressure compliance
  • Inspects grease-producing devices and kitchen fire extinguishing system
  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab
