About The Position

PURPOSE: The mechanic position is responsible to make repairs and perform general maintenance on all types of vehicles and equipment. Repairs shall be made in a safe, cost effective manner. RESPONSIBILITIES: Within the limits of approved board policies, operating guides and procedures, approved budgets and specific delegation from the Lead Mechanic, the Mechanic assumes the responsibility and has commensurate authority for the following activities, recognizing the continuing responsibility of this position for developing and maintaining a favorable Cooperative image consistent with the Cooperative Strategic Goals: As a Mechanic: Comply and maintain all safety and operating rules, procedures, and guidelines; and be responsible for reporting un-safe practices to your supervisor. Maintain an organized, clean, and efficient shop environment. Must be able to travel to repair fleet vehicles and to the other districts as needed. Will be responsible for maintaining accurate computer records of time and parts used on specific work order tasks. Uses specialized test equipment and tools, as required, to diagnose the operating faults of automotive and other related equipment. Maintains, services and overhauls internal combustion engines, fuel systems, suspension and drive line systems, electrical circuits, transmissions, steering and all other components of the automotive equipment. Maintains, services and overhauls diggers, trenchers, compressors, chippers, winches and other motorized equipment. Repairs and/or replaces various cab and body components, including window mechanisms, door and bin latches, bumpers, painting, etc.; performs acetylene welding and brazing in conjunction with these repairs, as well as electric welding. Inspects and makes minor repairs and adjustments to hydraulic and air systems. Performs emergency repairs in the field, as necessary. Maintains adequate inventory of all parts, oil, grease and supplies, and keeps accurate records of vehicle maintenance. Responsible for assigned vehicle and/or equipment to be kept clean and in good working condition, and for the completion of the mileage and/or safety reports, as required. In addition to these responsibilities, may be assigned to perform other duties.

Requirements

  • Requires excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Requires sufficient physical health to perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the job
  • Must have demonstrated the ability and skill to plan and organize delegated work, with a minimum of supervision
  • Must have legible handwriting
  • Must have basic computer skills
  • Must hold a valid Arkansas Class A CDL
  • Must comply with all general job requirements
  • This job requires reading, writing and mathematics therefore, a high school diploma or the equivalent is preferred, but not required
  • Must have five years of full time progressive work experience repairing and maintaining trucks, automobiles and mechanical equipment
  • Experience in using specialized test equipment and tools to diagnose automotive operating faults
  • Successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have all faculties necessary to meet position requirements and present a neat favorable professional appearance
