About The Position

The Assistant Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of all Conservancy owned and/or assigned equipment and vehicles. This position is part of the Fleet, Buildings & Infrastructure Department and reports directly to the Director of Operations. This is a full-time position; working 37.5 hours per week with non-exempt status according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. Overtime hours may be required at certain times, with supervisor approval. Requirements

  • City of Buffalo residency within six-(6) months of hire date
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in equivalent job duties and/or educational certifications/training
  • Transport equipment on a 30 ft trailer throughout park system
  • Driver's license required.
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Resourcefulness in utilizing time, equipment and/or supplies approved within the annual budget to the greatest benefit of the Conservancy
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with other employees
  • Professionalism in communication, demeanor and respectful relationship building at the highest level in representing the Conservancy and fostering collaborative partnerships

Nice To Haves

  • A Commercial Drivers License is a plus
  • Personal tools not required

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and repair, as needed, all Conservancy owned/assigned equipment and vehicles; including but not limited to vehicles, mowers, weedwhackers, golf carts, etc.
  • Ensure the equipment is in proper working condition to fulfill the maintenance needs of the parks
  • Assist in prioritizing repair and maintenance needs in coordination with the Director of Operations and District Supervisors'
  • Ensure that a proper inventory of supplies, parts and tools is kept
  • Ensure the area used for maintaining the equipment as well as the supplies, parts and tool inventory area is kept in an organized manner
  • Assist in keeping an ongoing record of all repairs and maintenance for each piece of equipment and vehicle
  • Train district supervisors and/or other staff in basic equipment maintenance and provide a checklist of items to review prior to utilizing equipment
  • Will be required to travel to all parks for repair and/or pick up of equipment as needed
  • Deliver fuel, as needed, to golf courses
  • Assistance with park maintenance and/or special events as needed
  • Attends Conservancy staff and safety meetings

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
