Maintains vehicles, which may include a fleet of cars, trucks, heavy equipment, and other motor vehicles. Performs routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups. Performs tests on specific parts and systems to ensure proper function. Identifies mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment. Examines critical parts and systems using a standard checklist. Repairs or replaces malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical parts. Plans and establishes timetable to complete repairs and maintenance. Test drives vehicle to confirm safe and proper operation. Diagnose and repair most transmission, engine, electrical, suspension, driveline, HVAC, brakes and air systems. Perform basic or minor repairs and inspections on brakes, tires, wiring etc. Perform basic and routine preventative maintenance on commercial buses. Repair and/or replace bolt on body parts such as hoods and cab extenders. Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in timely fashion. Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or close to most SRT times. Drive trucks in and out of shop before and after repairs are completed. Work closely with other mechanics and make suggestions on complicated repairs. Clean and maintain work area on a daily basis. Perform open seat inspections to prepare buses for next driver. Monitor workflow and report progress on complex repairs. Performs other related duties as assigned.
