Job Purpose The Mechanic is responsible for performing a wide range of diagnostics, repairs and maintenance on school buses and other company vehicles. Essential Functions Determine vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; identifying worn and damaged parts. Keep equipment DOT compliant by completing preventative maintenance scheduled, including, but not limited to; installing components, parts, or systems, such as, power and drive trains, electrical, fuel, exhaust system, braking, steering, hydraulics; air/hydraulic brakes; making adjustments and alignments including bearing loads, valve mechanisms, oil systems, control linkages, clutches, and traction units. Verify vehicle performance by conducting test drives and visual inspections. Maintain vehicle records by service and repair orders. Ensure all shop equipment is maintained and in good operating condition. Contain costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options. Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies, ensuring orders are placed and inventory is received. Maintain job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical and regulation publications. Enhance maintenance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments. Keep shop clean and organized. Keep shop manager / site manager updated on repairs and maintenance. Other Functions Attend meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functions. Perform other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the maintenance department.
