About The Position

A Ryland Environmental diesel mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines in large vehicles like trucks, buses, and trailers, performing routine maintenance tasks, utilizing diagnostic tools to identify issues, replacing malfunctioning parts, and ensuring the vehicles operate safely and efficiently according to industry standards; often requiring a strong understanding of complex diesel engine systems and the ability to work with heavy machinery and specialized tools.

Requirements

  • Mechanical aptitude: Deep understanding of diesel engine operation, components, and systems.
  • Diagnostic skills: Proficiency in using computerized diagnostic tools to identify problems.
  • Hand tools and equipment expertise: Ability to use a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
  • Problem-solving skills: Ability to analyze complex mechanical issues and develop effective repair strategies.
  • Physical strength: Capability to lift heavy components and work in tight spaces.
  • Attention to detail: Meticulous approach to ensure all repairs are completed accurately.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Vocational training or technical degree in diesel mechanics

Nice To Haves

  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in diesel engine repair is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic testing: Utilize diagnostic equipment to identify issues with diesel engines, including fuel injection systems, emissions systems, and electrical components.
  • Preventative maintenance: Perform routine maintenance tasks like oil changes, filter replacements, tire rotations, fluid level checks, and brake inspections.
  • Repair and replacement: Replace worn or damaged parts including engine components, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, and electrical systems.
  • Troubleshooting: Analyze symptoms and pinpoint the root cause of mechanical problems.
  • Vehicle inspection: Conduct thorough inspections of commercial vehicles to identify potential safety hazards.
  • Work order documentation: Maintain detailed records of repairs and maintenance performed on each vehicle.
  • Customer interaction: Communicate with customers regarding repair needs and costs.
  • Compliance with regulations: Ensure repairs adhere to all relevant safety and emission standards.
