The Mechanic provides 'first line response' for a wide variety of maintenance requests within Beaumont and facilities. This role frequently serves as the initial contact for customers and involves performing safety inspections, electronic, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC repairs, as well as carpentry and sheet metal installations. The Mechanic is responsible for ordering supplies, contacting vendors for warranty repairs, and responding to emergencies, including disaster response and elevator entrapments. The Mechanic also assists Supervisors, Leads, and Senior Mechanics as needed.

  • Conducts safety inspections of environmental rooms and equipment, repairs identified problems, and provides emergency procedures for utility systems.
  • Performs mechanical repairs on office furniture, equipment, and various hospital systems.
  • Handles plumbing repairs, including caulking and unclogging sinks, showers, and toilets, and identifies leaks.
  • Carries out carpentry maintenance activities such as hanging shelves, repairing handles, and installing furniture.
  • Performs electrical maintenance activities including replacing light bulbs and troubleshooting electrical appliances.
  • Conducts refrigeration maintenance and responds to refrigerator alarm systems.
  • Reads and records data from hospital mechanical systems and investigates temperature control problems.
  • Checks for defects in equipment and unsafe working conditions, taking corrective action as necessary.
  • Performs regular inspections and maintenance tasks such as Eyewash inspections and Medical Gas Testing.
  • Maintains and repairs the Pneumatic Tube System and assists with various projects as needed.
  • Participates in weekend, holiday, and shift rotations.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of a vocational training program.
  • Knowledge of Interim Life Safety (ILSM) and its implementation.
  • Some coursework at a community college or approved technical training institution related to building maintenance or skilled trades.
  • Building maintenance experience.
  • Painting experience.
