About The Position

The position involves making mechanical repairs to the district's fleet while providing support in the daily requirements of the transportation department. The individual will help ensure a safe and reliable vehicle for the transport of students and employees of KISD. Responsibilities include safely driving students to and from school on a schedule assigned by the Transportation Department and transporting students and staff to and from district-sanctioned activities. The individual is expected to always act in the best interest of the district, the students, and the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED with college hours preferred.
• Current ASE and/or TASBT certification in vehicle repair (preferred).
• Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements.
• School Bus Driver Certification or ability to obtain within six months of hire date.
• Three years of mechanical experience in vehicle repair and/or related experience.
• Pass annual physical in accordance with state law.
• Negative result on drug and/or alcohol tests as per federal law and district policy.
• Ability to communicate in English (written and oral).
• Ability to read and interpret maps and routes.
• Ability to climb in and out of all school bus emergency exits.
• Ability to work productively with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Formal training in vehicle repair (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Effect minor repairs on district vehicles such as hoses, belts, bulbs, and wipers.
• Perform general lubrication, change filters and fluids, and conduct PMIs as assigned, including brake pulls.
• Assist senior mechanics, lead mechanic, or shop foreman with major vehicle repairs.
• Maintain accurate and current records of vehicle maintenance and repairs performed.
• Prepare buses for daily trips, including fueling and washing as needed.
• Upkeep, repair, replace, and protect personal tools; certain large tools and equipment are supplied by the district.
• Operate any Katy ISD school bus and related equipment safely and efficiently while following all traffic laws and district regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
