About The Position

The Tow Truck Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining tow trucks and related recovery equipment. This role ensures all vehicles operate safely, reliably, and in compliance with state and federal regulations. The mechanic may also provide roadside troubleshooting and support when needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of experience in diesel or heavy truck repair (preferred).
  • Experience with tow truck equipment, hydraulics, and recovery systems.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and mechanical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in fast-paced environments.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy components and work in various weather conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Diesel technician certification.
  • Welding or fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical diagnostics and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and mechanical repairs on tow trucks and service vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, brakes, steering, and suspension components.
  • Maintain and repair towing equipment such as winches, booms, wheel lifts, flatbeds, and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct emergency roadside troubleshooting and minor repairs on stalled or disabled vehicles when required.
  • Roadside & Recovery Support Assist tow operators with recovery procedures and ensure equipment is functioning properly during operations.
  • Provide roadside services such as tire changes, jump starts, lockouts, and battery installations when needed.
  • Equipment & Shop Maintenance Perform daily inspections and ensure tow trucks are clean, organized, and fully stocked with tools and supplies.
  • Maintain accurate service records, repair logs, and inspection reports.
  • Identify parts needs and coordinate with management for ordering and inventory.
  • Safety & Compliance Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety protocols.
  • Ensure vehicles meet regulatory standards and pass required inspections.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
