About The Position

To provide journey-level skills to perform work in a variety of trades required for the maintenance, repair, and operation of Applied Research Laboratories (ARL) Facilities.

Requirements

  • HS/GED
  • Five years of experience, three of which should be journey level experience in one of the following fields: carpentry, welding, plumbing, HVAC, Electrical, metal building fabrication and painting.
  • Must be able to lift 80 lbs.
  • Must be able to work over water and at heights.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • Evidence of skills in the following areas: working with new technologies, being highly organized, planning and coordinating multiple tasks, effective time management, attention to detail, effective problem solving skills, using excellent judgment, working independently with sensitive and confidential information, maintaining a professional demeanor, working as a team member without daily supervision, effectively communicating with all groups of clients, working under pressure, accepting supervision and demonstrating regular/punctual attendance.
  • US Citizen: Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position.
  • This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in commercial framing and carpentry, with a strong understanding of layout, blueprint reading, and on-site measurements.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working with both metal stud and wood framing, installing sheathing, blocking, and backing, and setting door frames and rough openings in coordination with other trades.
  • A good working knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, and job site safety is expected.
  • Applicants should be skilled with power tools, saws, and lasers, and experienced in operating overhead cranes, forklifts, boom lifts, and other construction-related equipment.
  • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision and collaborate well within a crew.
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic are essential, along with the physical ability to lift materials and work on ladders, scaffolds, or lifts as required.

Responsibilities

  • Rough Carpentry.
  • Wall assembly.
  • Erect metal structures.
  • Install water and air lines.
  • Paint metal weldments.
  • Assist other trades as needed.
  • Operate UT vehicles, including mules.
  • Operating forklifts, boom lifts, and other construction related equipment, and complete any required training .
