About The Position

Assists Mechanic with maintenance and minor repairs. This position is responsible for preventative maintenance and inspections on buses and vehicles. This includes conducting detailed inspections while using tools and equipment in a safe and professional manner. Also maintains a clean, efficient, and safe shop area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to parents, staff, and students.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee occasionally is required to sit.
  • The employee frequently must squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head and reach forward.
  • The employee continuously uses hand strength to grasp tools.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds such as bus parts and chemical containers.
  • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment.

Nice To Haves

  • One-year automotive mechanic experience or completion of a one-year vocational training program in automotive mechanics preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists mechanics in the performance of Michigan Emissions Inspections.
  • Assist mechanics in the removal and replacement of components to include, but not limited to, power plant, transmission, alternator, starter and coach sub-systems.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on coaches.
  • Removal and replacement of flat glass, seats, and wheelchair tie-downs.
  • Minor defect repair including, but not limited to, adjusting brakes, changing tires, replacing lamps, adjusting door systems, adjusting hydraulic systems, changing air bags, repairing oil, water, transmission, and hydraulic system leaks.
  • Adjust, connect, or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts, using hand or power tools.
  • Completion of repair orders, core and warranty tags, part slips, and other records as required.
  • Safe operation and proper care of shop tools and equipment.
  • Cleaning shop and personal work areas.
  • Knowledge of hand tools
  • Other work as needed
