The Mechanic position at Pinney Dock involves performing equipment diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repair on gasoline and diesel fueled equipment, as well as miscellaneous material processing, packaging, and support equipment. The role requires troubleshooting and maintenance on internal combustion engines, power train, and chassis components of light-wheel vehicles, along with operating various tools and equipment. The mechanic will also be responsible for maintaining shop facilities and ensuring the upkeep of hand and power tools, while adhering to safety procedures.

  • Troubleshoot and perform unit maintenance on internal combustion engines and accessories, power train and chassis components of light-wheel vehicles
  • Operate a variety of tools/equipment such as cutting torch, welder, forklift, hand tools, power tools (impact wrench, drills, etc.) and electric meters
  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, semi-annual and annual maintenance according to manufacturer's specifications on all equipment
  • Test and operate vehicles and equipment as required
  • Respond to call out maintenance duties
  • Perform maintenance operations on both light and heavy equipment
  • Diagnose malfunctions of light-wheel vehicles and associated items
  • Perform the duties of a wheel and track vehicle mechanic
  • Maintain shop facilities and upkeep of hand and power tools
  • Complete applicable work orders, maintenance forms and records
  • Employ basic maintenance techniques to correct malfunctions of mechanical, electrical, air and hydraulic brake systems or components
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools, repair parts, equipment and assigned vehicles
  • Determine proper tools and equipment to be used for unit maintenance tasks
  • Organize work area to gain maximum efficiency and productivity in terms of time, tools and equipment
  • Apply and adhere to required safety procedures
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Align and adjust assemblies and components so equipment is functioning within the prescribed limits and tolerance
  • Read, understand and apply information contained in unit maintenance technical manuals and basic schematic diagrams
  • Isolate and identify causes and malfunctions
  • Perform limited cutting operations in support of the welder on staff
  • Use proper rigging techniques to attach and secure hoists, cables and slings using authorized equipment
  • High School diploma or equivalent; formal mechanical training preferred
  • Must have hands-on related experience
  • Must have demonstrated troubleshooting and repair skills
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TWIC clearance and/or any other security clearances as required
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license
