About The Position

The Multi-Skilled Mechanic will be based out of Baltimore, MD and will be responsible for ensuring the efficient maintenance and operation of our plant equipment, buildings, and facilities within a unionized environment. This role demands technical proficiency, and a collaborative approach in working alongside hourly maintenance employees and instrumentation technicians.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years relevant industrial maintenance experience as a Multi-Skilled Mechanic.
  • 3-5 years relevant industrial maintenance experience as a First-Class Mechanic with a score of at least 80% on the Maintenance Skills Matrix.
  • 1-3 years relevant industrial maintenance experience as a Second-Class Mechanic with a score of at least 70% on the Maintenance Skills Matrix.
  • Possess math skills necessary to perform essential job functions and Quality requirements.
  • Ability to read instruction manuals, written job procedures, safety policies, MSDS, hazard warnings, and Quality related material.

Responsibilities

  • Understand basic pipe-fitting theory and fluid dynamics.
  • Know proper use of levels, plumb bobs and layout techniques.
  • Identify and use various types of piping materials and schedules.
  • Operate pipe-threading equipment.
  • Perform proper gasket and bolt-up techniques.
  • Bevel and prep butt-weld fit ups.
  • Know proper welding rod for given metallurgy.
  • Install and repair various types of industrial valves.
  • Run and connect copper and stainless-steel tubing.
  • Understand concepts of welding, various joints and joint fit ups.
  • Set-up and use cutting torch.
  • Stick weld carbon steel plate and structural material, stainless steel plate and structural material, carbon steel pipe (all positions).
  • Brazing and soldering, carbon and plasma arc gouging.
  • Understand theory of thermal expansion.
  • Operate shop lathe and milling machine.
  • Properly use calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges and dial indicators.
  • Understand various types of pumps, pump components, lubricants and lubricating systems.
  • Rebuild gear boxes and gear reducers, pumps, blowers, screws and conveyors.
  • Assist in maintaining spare parts inventory.
  • Understand theory of rigging, rigging safety, use of barricades, load balancing and spreader devices hazard identification and tag lines.
  • Operate forklift, front-end loader and hydraulic crane.
  • Set up and use air compressors and pneumatic tools.
  • Select and use proper type and size rigging for a job.
  • Set up and use chain falls and lever hoists (properly).
  • Understand basic electrical power theory and related safety hazards and proper/safe work procedures.
