About The Position

Then you need to apply to Carson! We are looking for a Mechanic III to join our Portland team. You will perform engine diagnoses and complete engine rebuilding, major component repair and replacement, preventative maintenance on diesel and non-diesel equipment and trucks. This position requires a knowledge of vehicle systems, computer programs associated with Engines and tanker components. Experience in aluminum welding and metallurgy is a plus.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in a maintenance role.
  • Broad knowledge of the industry’s best safety practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team orientation.
  • Computer literate with experience Microsoft Office email and hours of service management systems.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Considerable knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and standard practices of heavy equipment mechanical work.
  • Considerable knowledge of the operating and maintenance requirements of various types of heavy equipment.
  • Some knowledge of the occupational hazards of the mechanical trades and of necessary safety precautions.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to locate and diagnose defects in diesel and gas-powered equipment.
  • Skill in use of tools and equipment and their care in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment.
  • Requires valid driver's license and clean driving record, Class A with Tanker endorsement preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification preferred.
  • Experience working with heavy transportation vehicles, aircrafts or ships preferred.
  • Experience in petroleum tanker piping systems a plus.
  • Aluminum welding experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Routine vehicle preventative maintenance inspections and adjustments.
  • Repair malfunctioning components, change brakes, adjust steering systems, replace worn out parts, and change hydraulic fluids.
  • Extensive engine experience on Cummings ISX, Caterpillar and Paccar MX, Detroit.
  • Knowledge in the Cummings onsite diagnoses program and the Paccar Davies diagnoses program.
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
  • Perform a variety of routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and changing tires.
  • Adjustments and light repairs such as tire changes, light changes, and basic electrical work.
  • Experience in petroleum tanker piping systems a plus.
  • Aluminum welding experience is a plus.
  • Complete all applicable company training programs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by supervisor.
