About The Position

Perform mechanical maintenance activities on both non-safety and safety-related components by performance of preventative maintenance, predictive maintenance, and planned and unplanned corrective maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation of Cooper Nuclear Station. Be available when required to ensure an adequate pool of manpower to correct plant problems. This position will be assigned to a position within the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) that requires response to the station when an emergency is declared. Assignment to one of these positions and a condition of continued employment will be the ability to arrive at the station to perform ERO responsibilities within 45 minutes of notification of an emergency. All Mechanics must be recommended based on the Power Plant Maintenance Positions Selection system (MASS) results. Mechanic III Two-year Associates Degree in mechanical discipline or related field, or equivalent military training OR High School diploma/GED and a minimum of 4 years of experience as a mechanic or related equivalent in an industrial setting; or successful completion of a mechanical apprentice program. Mechanic II Two-year associate's degree in mechanical discipline or related field, or equivalent military training and one year experience as a mechanic. (OR) High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 5 years mechanical experience in an industrial setting. Mechanic I Two-year associate's degree in a mechanical discipline or related field, or equivalent military training and 2 years of experience in a nuclear plant as a mechanic. (OR) High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 6 years of mechanical experience in an industrial setting and successful completion of Mechanic Level II training program at Cooper Nuclear Station. Must be qualified to ANSI N18.1-1971 requirements. (Documentation of qualification is a condition of employment.)   Experience in a nuclear facility is preferred. Experience as a UST Technician (Fire-Brigade) will be considered relevant experience and count towards the minimum years of experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Maintenance Training Programs as required to achieve and demonstrate knowledge and skills required to progress to Mechanic I
  • Support plant maintenance and operations activities through operation of heavy equipment as required during all modes of plant operation, including rigging, loading, unloading, and transfer of special nuclear material, performing corrective and preventive maintenance on station equipment and station vehicles, and working shift work in support of maintenance activities as required.
  • Perform investigations of failures and deficiencies on plant equipment with engineers, department and shop supervisors, and vendors in order to correct problems and improve the reliability of station equipment.
  • Initiate, review and revise station procedures to comply with requirements, improve the quality and accuracy of procedural guidance and improve documentation of work records.
  • Level I Mechanics will develop and portray high professional standards and provide, as necessary, assistance and coaching (mentoring) to Level II and Level III mechanics.
  • Accountable for other duties as assigned.
