Summary The Mechanic III Plumber is esponsible for the maintenance and repair of hospital sanitary steam, potable water, storm, steam, condensate return, fire protection systems welding/metal-fabrication associated with all projects in all shop. Performs code complaint plumbing and heating repairs and installations: Proficient use of steam table Familiar with pipe class, fittings and appropriate uses Able to access construction drawings and troubleshoot sanitary, steam, condensate and potable water system Insulate pipe ½” to 6” Applies all appropriate safety and health standards Requisition parts Proficient at installing cast iron no HUB, high medium and low pressure steam, bell and spigot sanitary, copper silver soldering, mechanical joint, flange, PVC and screwed pipe and fittings. Familiar with welding and fabrication of small-medium equipment. Performs plumbing associated PM tasks: Check pneumatic actuators Test and inspects all fire protection equipment Monitor and check operating perimeters on mechanical equipment PM all equipment associated with potable water systems including both floor prevention, water storage tank control/isolation, emergency H20 tanker operation and isolation, PM steam heat exchangers Test steam traps Test PRV stations PM domestic water tanks PM faucets, sinks, flush valves Access, record history on PM system EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT(S): Minimum Education – High School graduate, technical certification preferred. Minimum Experience – Eight years in trade Minimum Skills/Abilities – Read blueprints and specifications; be familiar with all plumbing codes including requirements of the MWRA. Certification/Licensure – Journeyman Plumber License with proven experience in the trade. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires that weight be lifted in the following approximate amounts and how frequent. 10lbs – 25% to 50% of the time. 25lbs – 25% to 50% of the time. 50lbs – 25% of the time. The position also requires the ability to walk and carry objects, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. The work environment will include outdoor work up to 25% of the time. Exposure to plumbing chemicals and other toxic or caustic chemicals, dust, blood borne pathogens and flammable substances would be up to 25% of the time. The use of greases, oils, cleaning agents, and chemicals; humid and wet conditions (non weather), and hot noisy environments for up to 25% of the time also. The employee will use personal protective equipment and have knowledge of safety equipment. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION: Performs and/ or supervises plumbing repairs and installations throughout the hospital Has knowledge of repairs and all components of domestic water service. Has knowledge of repairs and all sanitary system components Inspects, diagnosis and installation. Makes recommendations for upgrade or repairs of all related components and systems. Ability to determine causes of malfunctions. Cost conscious when planning installations, upgrades, or repairs. Knowledge of tools/ equipment & procedures Has a working knowledge of tools of the trade. Has a working knowledge of various materials used for specifying original installations, upgrades or repairs. Has the ability to teach/ train others in proper procedures with regards to tool usage material specifying and repair work Regulatory Standards Has a knowledge of plumbing codes applicable to the hospital, used in his or her work Can relate the job to other hospital codes and rules when proceeding with work Preventive Maintenance Can help determine a PM schedule for any and all systems and equipment Performs and/or oversees the tests, inspections and maintenance of all related systems and equipment.
