About The Position

This Mechanic II position is located at Roanoke River Correctional Institution in Halifax County, NC. This is supervisory work or highly skilled work in the general maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings, tractor repair and service, and plumbing, heating/cooling, and/or electrical systems. Work is performed in accordance with maintenance schedules across assigned facilities. Special repair assignments are received by work orders from authorized personnel. Work requires the exercise of initiative and judgment in the application of various technical trade skills to a variety of maintenance, repair and/or construction problems and in determining the extent of repair or replacement work to be done. Work usually involves supervision of employees engaged in journeyman level work involving electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air, carpentry, cabinet making, roofing, painting, heavy equipment service and operation or other trades. However, employees may perform a wide variety of highly technical tasks independently at and above the journeyman level.

Requirements

• High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in the area of assignment, or a sufficient year-for- year combination of education and experience in the repair work to which assigned; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• May require current certification by the EPA as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by 40 CFR part 82, subpart F.
