About The Position

The Level Two Fleet Mechanic performs intermediate to advanced diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on diesel and gas-powered vehicles and plant equipment. This role builds upon foundational skills and requires greater independence, technical knowledge, and troubleshooting ability.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid driver's license. Class A CDL preferred or required, contingent upon the requirements of the specific location.
  • Vocational training plus one (1) year of related work experience OR three (3) years of related work experience required.
  • Experience should include: ability to service, repair, and diagnose brakes. Must have brake certification
  • ability to service and diagnose fleet equipment, (tractor/pickups/trailers) power-train mechanics and plant vehicles.
  • Basic use of hand-tools required.
  • Proficiency in diesel and gasoline engine systems, electrical diagnostics, and hydraulic troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with OEM diagnostic tools and software.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, work orders, and technical manuals.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Efficient in using company-specific fleet software with solid computer proficiency.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be able to travel as needed for specialized or advanced technician training.

  • Self-motivated; self-starter; ability to lead teams.
  • ASE certifications in areas such as Diesel Engines, Brakes, and Electrical Systems are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all tasks associated with Level One Fleet Mechanic responsibilities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Respond to roadside service calls for disabled vehicles when required.
  • Interprets repair manuals properly repair the equipment.
  • Responsible for being familiar with and observing all company safety rules, regulations and environmental regulations; recognizes that safety is top company priority; attends regularly scheduled safety meetings.
  • Diagnose and repair diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, transmissions, and hydraulic systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections, annual inspections and services on fleet vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot and repair air brake systems, suspension components, and drivetrains.
  • Use diagnostic software and scan tools to identify and resolve issues.
  • Maintain accurate service records and complete work orders in fleet management systems.
  • Mentor and assist level one mechanics
  • Participate in ongoing training and certification programs (travel as needed).
  • All other duties as assigned.
