About The Position

Mechanic III’s are responsible for performing preventative maintenance and general repairs on tractors and trailers to comply with company and DOT standards. Mechanic III’s regard quality, safety, and equipment utilization as their primary focus. Mechanic III’s are the diagnostic and service providers for drivers and carrier clients and ensure their needs are met including effective communication on all repairs. Mechanic III’s are also responsible for supporting inventory control and providing accurate documentation. Mechanic III’s are relied on daily to aide others in keeping our fleet of trucks and trailers readily available and in top condition. . Location: Florence, KY Pay Range: $23.55 - $35.33 Shift: First Shift

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • DOT and brake certified; HM certification required for trailer mechanics
  • 2+ years of industry experience maintaining Class 8 commercial vehicles; tractors and/or trailing equipment.
  • Formal trade education equivalence is acceptable in place of experience
  • Required to possess necessary tooling to perform assigned duties: Sockets/wrenches 1.25” and lower Air tools 1/2” drive and lower Volt meter/ test light Acceptable tool chest to store personal tool
  • Demonstrated ability to follow schedules, instructions, wiring diagrams, maintenance guidelines, and other procedures associated with the maintenance of tractor, trailer components
  • Ability to learn and use TMT Transman software and laptop diagnostics, general PC skills
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to make logical decisions in support of business demands
  • Professional and courteous interpersonal skills
  • Effective time management and the ability to prioritize work without impeding productivity
  • Maintain sense of urgency; always demonstrating safe operating procedures
  • Demonstrate solid troubleshooting skills to make successful repairs
  • Self-motivated and able and willing to work independently while supporting team efforts

Nice To Haves

  • Experience moving trailers in and out of shop a plus

Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance
  • Assist other technicians with tractor and trailer repairs
  • Senior level diagnostics and repairs related to any system of the assigned equipment; for example:
  • DOT inspections
  • HM, VIK, and UC inspection (trailer mechanics)
  • Brake inspections and repairs.
  • Service Air systems and brakes.
  • Advanced level diagnostics and repairs related to any system of the assigned equipment; for example: suspension, drive train, HVAC, electrical, damage repair, valve repair, etc.
  • Ability to troubleshoot failures of all components.
  • Lift and install heavy components of CMVs such as starters, clutches, brake drums, etc. (pending equipment assignment).
  • Ensure that all parts and labor are accurately charged to the proper repair order.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment that complies with OSHA standards.
  • Welding and light fabricating.
  • Ensure equipment has required licensing and registration prior to being deemed as “roadworthy”.
  • Practices safe work habits as outlined by the company and local authorities.
