About The Position

The City of O'Fallon, Missouri is seeking a dedicated and skilled Mechanic I to help maintain and repair our diverse fleet of City vehicles and equipment. If you're a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in high-quality, dependable work, this is an excellent opportunity to contribute directly to the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of City operations. All new hires will begin at the Mechanic I level, regardless of existing certifications. Employees who already possess the appropriate credentials and who demonstrate Mechanic II–level capability and competence to the Fleet Manager and Fleet Coordinator will be eligible for promotion after six months ($30.07per hour)

Requirements

  • Familiarity with departmental and City policies , safety procedures, and municipal fleet operations.
  • Strong understanding of diagnostic procedures and modern vehicle/equipment repair methods.
  • Skill in repairing a variety of vehicles, heavy equipment, and mechanical systems .
  • Proficiency with necessary tools, diagnostic equipment, and repair technologies .
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, plus specialized training in vehicle or equipment maintenance.
  • 1–2 years of experience , apprenticeship, or internship in mechanical repair.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Missouri driver's license appropriate for assigned equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair all assigned vehicles, equipment, and systems , including mechanical, HVAC, hydraulic, electrical, and brake systems.
  • Perform fabrication, welding repairs, and equipment modifications as needed.
  • Maintain and repair snow equipment and assist in snow-removal operations.
  • Keep tools, equipment, and the work area in safe, clean, and working order .
  • Transport vehicles to and from outside repair providers when required.
  • Maintain parts and supply inventories , source parts from vendors, and keep accurate service records.
  • Perform additional duties that support overall Fleet Maintenance operations.
