Salary Range: Mechanic I: $25.53 per hour Mechanic II: $27.81 per hour Mechanic III: $30.29 per hour Job Summary: Performs technical work in the maintenance and repairs of the mechanical systems of a wastewater treatment plant, building, facilities and City owned lift stations under general supervision. The incumbent must perform work safely, efficiently, and accurately, occasionally under adverse conditions. Expected to exercise initiative and independent judgment both individually and as part of a team. Communicates and cooperates with City personnel, public, vendors and contractors. Checks, lubricates, maintains, adjusts, and assists with repairs on pumps, mechanical equipment, and other related equipment within the treatment plant and at lift stations; Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and semi-annual maintenance related activities as required; Monitors equipment performance and has the ability to recognize equipment failure; Maintains pumps and motors, as well as boilers and centrifuge; Maintains chemical feed equipment; Maintains digester gas system components; Maintains spare parts and equipment inventory; Performs some plumbing and carpentry tasks, in addition to regular work, and other related work as may be required for proper plant operation; Occasionally performs minor maintenance on pickups, skid steer, boom lift, telehandler, and other heavy equipment; Provides on call assistance for emergencies and acts effectively in emergency situations; Responsible to keep neat, timely and accurate records and computer entries for asset management system, understand and follow written and verbal instructions, regulations and policies; Enters data on computer using database software and creates and completes work orders; Maintains maintenance system logs and keeps records; Performs standard safety practices and can implement Lock out Tag out, confined space entry, and safe atmosphere testing procedures; Identifies parts, lubricants, and tools necessary to repair and maintain all department equipment and recommends items for purchase; Performs general cleaning / maintenance tasks necessary to keep facilities, vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition; reports faulty equipment; Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external customers; Performs other duties as assigned or needed. Mechanic III: Provide training and mentoring to a team of wastewater mechanics; Provide input to annual division operating and capital budgets by identifying and recommending required expenditures; Assist in scheduling and tracking of the preventative maintenance program which includes assisting in creating maintenance schedules for new equipment as it comes online; Assists in obtaining quotes and bids for repair work, equipment purchases and services; Support the implementation and ongoing utilization of asset management software, and ensure that all work orders are entered into the asset management software; Assist crews, departments and others with regular maintenance and special projects; Performs fabrication with welding involving use of steel, stainless steel and aluminum; Handles, maintains, and stores oils, solvents and other shop chemicals; reads and follows Safety Data Sheets (SDS); Utilizes standard shop tools and machines (such as parts washer, plasma cutter, etc.); Provide training regarding work methods, procedures, utilizing specialized tools and equipment, and all related safety aspects; Assist in administering the program’s training and development requirements to ensure licensures, certifications and qualifications are intact and current for all staff; Assist in developing appropriate Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for section processes; Occasionally assists with preparation and review of bid specifications for purchase of large equipment, mechanical and electrical equipment, and related components; Reviews and makes recommendations on acceptance of bids for equipment and contracted work; Serves in emergency standby capacity; provides customer service and performs aspects of maintenance and repair during after hour periods including holidays and weekends; Adjusts and troubleshoot Variable Frequency Drives (VFD); and able to correspond with outside vendors for information or assistance; Troubleshoots and performs diagnostics of mechanical, electrical, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and lift station systems for repair, replacement, and new installment of equipment and structures;

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of equipment and/or facilities or closely related field sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Must hold a valid State of Idaho driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Must have or be able to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class I license within 12 months of hire
  • Must be able to attend and complete all required safety training requirements and certifications including but not limited to: confined space entry, CPR/AED, ICS, fall protection, forklift
  • Three (3) years maintenance and repair of equipment, facilities or the performance of related work; or any combination of experience and education that provides the skills and abilities necessary to perform all the duties listed and experience with electrical and mechanical equipment with work experience in a variety of work elements including equipment repair, servicing and lubrication and troubleshooting
  • Possess a Wastewater Collection Operator Class 1 license or Operator-in-Training (OIT) license, or possess the ability to attain within one year of hire
  • Minimum of four (4) years experience as a journey-level industrial mechanic in an industrial setting
