About The Position

The Mechanic Helper/Sugar Dryer position involves assisting with mechanical inspections, maintenance, and repairs, as well as operating sugar drying equipment. The Mechanic Helper is responsible for general maintenance and repair tasks, ensuring a clean and safe work area, and performing work in accordance with safety procedures. The Sugar Dryer Operator's primary responsibility is to operate sugar drying equipment, ensuring the conversion of raw sugar into its dry form while maintaining strict safety and quality standards.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
• 1+ years of industrial mechanical skills.
• Ability to read, write and speak English.
• Ability to operate a forklift and various hand/power tools.
• Qualified to operate an overhead crane.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

• Bilingual and Biliterate - English and Spanish preferred.
• 1 year of previous experience in technical or vocational training in equipment operation, industrial processes, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Assist mechanics and welders in general maintenance and repair.
• Check for problems and communicate up the reporting chain.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with company and OSHA Standards.
• Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Operate batch and continuous centrifugal for sugar drying.
• Monitor sugar quality and advise the Centrifugal Leader and Supervisor of any abnormalities.
• Observe the flow of materials through elevators and conveyors to prevent jamming or spillage.
• Signal the Centrifugal Operator to synchronize the flow of materials to the rate of intake at the drier.
• Dump sugar dust from the collector into melting tanks.
• Add water to reclaim sugar lost during the process.
• Clean equipment with steam, hot water, and a hose.
