About The Position

The Mechanic Helper (Mechanic & Shipping Assistant) role is designed to provide comprehensive support across the entire workshop project workflow.  Key responsibilities include organizing and staging materials for the job preparation phase, offering mechanical assistance during disassembly and assembly, and collaborating with the Shipping Coordinator on all logistics, including organizing, preparing, and arranging shipments. Requirements

  • Previous 1 year of hands-on mechanical experience, preferably in a job setting, required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical disassembly, assembly and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Knowledge of overhead crane, including hoisting and rigging techniques a plus.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Knowledge in the use of hand and power tools is required.
  • Previous shipping/receiving experience preferred.
  • Ability to follow step-by-step procedures with accuracy is required.
  • Must have ability to multi-task and handle multiple assignments at one time.
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Basic Computer Skills: general data entry and documentation skills required; Microsoft Outlook preferred.  ERP experience a plus.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Education Requirements: Vocational or High School; Specialized Technical Training; or combination of training and experience

Responsibilities

  • Properly arrange and store items after disassembly.
  • Verify quantities, stage and prepare items for each work order, prior to the start of the assembly process.
  • Assist in the performance of mechanical duties on equipment as instructed, in the disassembly, assembly and testing of equipment, in accordance with QA, health/safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Assist in the performance of fabrication of lightweight apparatus and/or structures used in the maintenance of equipment.
  • Assist in the packaging of parts/equipment into appropriate shipping containers and prepare for shipment; load trucks.
  • Assist in providing shipping documentation and the coordination of transportation of shipments to/from customers or suppliers.
  • Assist in unloading and receiving deliveries, verifying quantities are correct and identifying missing or incorrect items.
  • Train to act as back-up to the Shipping Coordinator in cases of the coordinator’s absence.
  • Interface with project management, technical personnel, logistics, purchasing and other staff as needed to complete projects.
  • Perform housekeeping and maintenance activities as required.
  • Provide any additional support where needed.
