About The Position

The Mechanic - Forklift Technician is responsible for performing scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on forklifts and material handling equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient warehouse operations. This role helps reduce downtime, extend equipment life, and maintain compliance with safety regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training preferred
  • 1–3 years of experience maintaining forklifts or industrial equipment (or equivalent mechanical experience)
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
  • Ability to read service manuals, PM checklists, and schematics
  • Familiarity with OSHA forklift safety standards preferred
  • Valid driver’s license required; forklift certification a plus
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Good communication and documentation skills
  • Basic computer skills for maintenance tracking systems (CMMS experience preferred)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and work in tight spaces
  • Comfortable working in a warehouse environment with varying temperatures

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on forklifts (electric, propane, diesel, and gasoline), pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections according to manufacturer and company PM schedules
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues and perform minor repairs
  • Lubricate, adjust, and replace parts such as filters, fluids, belts, hoses, brakes, and batteries
  • Inspect forks, chains, tires, mast assemblies, and safety devices for wear or damage
  • Test equipment after maintenance to ensure proper operation and safety
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection logs, and work orders
  • Tag and remove unsafe equipment from service when necessary
  • Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to schedule PM work with minimal disruption
  • Follow OSHA, ANSI, and company safety policies at all times
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance area and properly handle tools and materials
