About The Position
The Mechanic - Fleet Maintenance position is crucial for ensuring the operational efficiency and safety of VIA's public transportation fleet. This role involves diagnosing and repairing mechanical failures in various vehicles, including revenue buses, paratransit vehicles, cars, and trucks, as well as maintaining plant facilities and related equipment. The mechanic will be responsible for both on-site and off-site repairs, ensuring that all vehicles and equipment meet the required safety and performance standards. In addition to repairs, the mechanic will conduct preventive maintenance inspections on VIA-owned equipment and facilities. This proactive approach is essential to maintain a satisfactory level of mechanical integrity and to prevent potential breakdowns that could disrupt service. The role also includes the design and fabrication of structures and equipment necessary for vehicle repair, which requires a blend of technical skills and creativity. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical repair, with the ability to read and interpret technical documents and schematics. They should also possess basic mathematical skills to assist in diagnostics and repairs. The position may require collaboration with other team members and departments to ensure that all maintenance and repair tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
