About The Position

The Senior Level Diesel Technician at Ryder in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy-duty vehicles within the company's truck fleet. This permanent full-time position requires a skilled technician to perform complex mechanical and electronic diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repairs, while also mentoring junior technicians. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Vocational or Technical Certification or Post Secondary degree preferred.
  • Basic tools required.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines.
  • Three (3) years or more relevant work experience preferred.
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of 2 years of experience with mechanical repairs and diagnostics on heavy-duty and medium-duty equipment.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.

  • Additional certifications as required by location.
  • Experience with OEM On-Line diagnostic scan tool software.

Responsibilities

  • Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties including standard vehicle maintenance and preventive maintenance.
  • Diagnoses complex mechanical and electronic problems utilizing diagnostic computers when applicable.
  • Completes complex and detailed mechanical inspections and repairs with minimal supervision.
  • Replaces defective components as instructed and works unsupervised on most tasks.
  • Performs facility maintenance duties and interacts with customers/drivers to determine the nature of complaints.
  • Utilizes key functions of the Shop Management System and electronic documentation available.
  • Works in accordance with all federal/provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, DOT, MOT).
  • Acts as a mentor for Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels.
  • Demonstrates the ability to access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
  • Completes additional support duties as required to support operations.
