About The Position

The Class B-2 Mechanic is responsible for performing various maintenance-related duties for the Urban Division of Hill Country Transit District (HCTD), under the direction of the HCTD Fleet Manager or designee. The role includes performing basic service for fleet-related running repairs, supporting maintenance and repairs on the vehicle fleet, assisting in major repairs, and maintaining cleanliness and proper appearance of the vehicle fleet and facilities. The position requires working in a safe manner and includes two available shifts: 5am - 2pm or 11pm - 8pm.

  • Must have the ability to drive a vehicle and have a clear driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal record check.
  • Must receive a negative drug test result.
  • Must pass a D.O.T. physical.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and work with others.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to deal with problems constructively.
  • Must have a valid CDL permit and have already successfully passed the following (5) skills tests and be ready to take road test and take Passenger Endorsement and Air Brake Endorsement within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform basic service for fleet related to running repairs, such as light bulbs, flashers, minor repairs, and higher levels of service and repairs including brakes, suspensions, air conditioners, and electrical.
  • Support and assist in the performance of all maintenance and repairs on the vehicle fleet 'in house' when possible.
  • Assist in making major repairs to body, chassis, engines, and other component systems.
  • Perform basic PMI service tasks such as oil and filter changes, fluid level checks, safety inspections, and minor repairs.
  • Assist in the movement of vehicles and schedule and coordinate all out-of-service vehicles with the Fleet Manager or designee.
  • Assist in the maintenance of cleanliness and proper appearance of vehicle fleet, passenger shelters, benches, and immediate grounds, and all office and shop space.
  • Assist in the assembly and placement of benches and trash containers and installation/replacement of Bus Stop route signs as required.
  • Assist in the maintenance and changing out of advertising displays inside and outside of buses, on passenger shelters and benches, and on other displays as directed by the Fleet Manager or designee.
  • Assist in preparing new vehicles for placement into service.
  • Diagnose and perform maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment and components of The HOP facilities, regardless of type, as directed.
  • Maintain an organized and orderly work area.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records as required.
  • Serve as lead mechanic in the absence of the Class A and direct work flow as required.

Benefits

  • Hourly wage of $20.85 per hour.
