The Mechanic, Auto/Truck directly supports all mechanics in the day-to-day maintenance and repairs of light and heavy-duty vehicles, semi-trucks, trailers, gas and diesel vehicles, and diesel-powered forklifts. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting, repairing and the maintenance work, troubleshooting and performing routine maintenance tasks on equipment related components such as engines, transmissions, differentials, hydraulic systems, starter motors, automotive air conditioning, charging systems, portable air compressors and welders, small truck cranes, etc.

Requirements

  • Solid background in various automotive/truck gas and diesel equipment, troubleshooting engines, repair and maintenance.
  • Basic knowledge of Arc / Mig welding and cutting methods
  • Solid background in automotive / truck 12V and 24V electrical systems
  • Knowledge to diagnose complex 12V and 24V electrical systems on a variety of mobile equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic hydraulic systems fork lifts and heavy-duty yard trucks.
  • Knowledge of forklift hydraulic components for safety decals and compliance
  • Knowledge to diagnose and repairs on diesel emissions systems
  • High School Diploma or GED and5+ years’ experience, troubleshooting repairing and performing preventative maintenance on various auto / truck vehicles gas and diesel or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Candidates must have a verifiable history of safe vehicle operation and meet company standards for driving eligibility. This includes maintaining a clean driving record, which will be verified through a background check.
  • Ability to ascend and descend ramps, steps, ladders, stairs using three-point contact.
  • Ability to bend, stretch,twistor reach with body,armsand/or legs.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemblevery smallobjects.
  • Exposurenoise, dust, fumes, gases, and inclementweather temperatures.
  • Occasional exposure to environmental factors such as fumes, airborneparticlesand vibrations
  • Able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Able to walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Able to work on ladders,stairsand boom lifts.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in “Total Process Reliability” (TPR) maintenance is a plus
  • Technical degree inautomotive / truckgas and dieselmaintenance and repairs
  • Technical degree inelectrical andelectronics in a plus
  • Technical School for Hydraulic Troubleshooting

Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicles for damage and record findings so that necessary repairs can be made.
  • Perform routine and scheduled maintenance such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune-ups.
  • Change spark plugs, fuel filters, and batteries.
  • Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine cooling, and electrical systems.
  • Test drives vehicle and test components and systems, using computerized diagnostics devices to ensure proper repairs have been made and ensure equipment is safe to use.
  • Works independently and/or assists other shop mechanics in maintaining company vehicles such as shuttle trucks, auto and truck repairs as well as various trailers and equipment as required.
  • Check equipment for damage, record hours used, mileage and fuel levels.
  • Works with high integrity and complies with corporate guidelines on business ethics.
  • Will follow company and department rules and policies.
  • Work directly with the other Department Supervisors and Managers to accomplish project goals as needed.
  • Read service guides to find information needed to perform repairs.
  • Record repairs required, parts used and labor time.
  • Communicates with Lead and Manager regarding day-to-day vehicle maintenance schedules and maintains quality control of completed tasks.
  • Work in a productive manner and strive to maintain a spirit of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Assist in the pick up and delivery of equipment and parts to and from outside vendors.
  • Operates stationery and moving overhead cranes, forklifts, and any equipment needed to perform a job within safety guidelines.
  • Conduct visual inspections to identify cracks, gouges, abrasions, discoloration, broken fibers, loose brackets, damaged gaskets or other problems.
